Iron ore rally pushes up Fortescue Metals (ASX:FMG): ASX closed 0.1% lower

21 Dec 2020 - The local sharemarket ended lower today after failing to gain momentum after a drop at the open. Shares in Fortescue Metals Group (ASX:FMG) did well today. Shares in Synlait Milk (ASX:SM1) dropped after they revised their profit expectations. Star Entertainment Group (ASX:SGR) will re-impose capacity limits at its Sydney casino due to the Covid outbreak.

Health insurance premiums to rise in early 2021: ASX tracking 0.4% lower at noon

21 Dec 2020 - The ASX opened lower this morning with the S&P/ASX 200 Index 26 points down or 0.4% lower at 6,650. Shares in online retailer Kogan.com (ASX:KGN) are doing well today. Shares in Wisetech Global (ASX:WTC) have seen a drop of over 9%. The Federal Minister for Health today announced that private health insurance premiums will change across the industry, effective 1 April 2021.

Travel restrictions imposed on NSW after more Covid cases: ASX to open lower

21 Dec 2020 - The ASX looks set to open lower this morning as the new coronavirus outbreak has led to border restrictions with all states and territories closing their borders to NSW. European countries have closed their borders to the UK and the US is also coping with a second wave. Iron ore is on the up and the AUD is standing at almost US$0.76. Synlait Milk (ASX:SM1) has updated its full year 2021 guidance.
