ASX extends winning streak, led by iron ore miners & banks: Aus shares close 1.02% higher

08 Apr 2021 - The ASX continued its winning streak for the fifth day, gaining 1% to close at a 13-month high of 6,999. All sectors closed in the black. Miners performed strongly, with the likes of iron ore heavyweights BHP (ASX:BHP), Rio (ASX:RIO) and Fortescue Metals (ASX:FMG) adding 2.1 – 2.6%. The big four banks rallied. EML payments (ASX:EML) is best-performing stock, rising 5.7%, while the worst-performing stock is Resolute Mining (ASX:RSG), shedding 3.13%.

The Australian sharemarket’s rally decelerated just before midday, but picked up pace again to finish the trading session at a 13-month high. Gains in Afterpay and EML payments shares have cemented the tech sector’s footing in positive territory for a 4th consecutive day.

Boral (ASX:BLD) announces buy-back offer after $1.33b US sale: ASX 0.4% higher at noon

01 Apri 2021 - The ASX opened higher and lifted by 0.5% in early trade, then faded towards noon. Technology and mining shares are leading the gains while Industrials, Energy, Consumer staples weighed on the market. Boral (ASX:BLD) completes the sale of its 50% stake in the USG Boral joint venture to Gebr Knauf KG for $1.33 billion dollars.
