Markets factor in record inflation data, All eyes on the oil price

14 Jul 2022 - The inflation data was pretty much factored into market prices, hence such a moot reaction by markets overnight, with Wednesday’s hot CPI reading also prompting questions over whether inflation has in fact reached its peak. Either way the market is now pricing in an 80% chance of a 100bp hike later this month.

12 Jul 2022 - Watch out for the continued short-selling attack on lithium companies like Lake Resources (ASX:LKE) and Core Lithium (ASX:CXO), with J Capital issuing its latest short report on Monday, targeting Australian lithium producer Lake Resources. Both Core and Lake have around 8-9 per cent of their issued capital short sold at present.

Analysts still bullish despite recession fears: Aus shares to open higher

04 Jul 2022 - Accelerated monetary policy tightening has doubled recession odds, says Morgan Stanley this week, noting that most economic models now suggest that the probability of a recession during the next 12 months has doubled to over 50 per cent. Ironically since the Fed’s June rate hike, the S&P 500 has risen around 3 per cent with analysts still predicting double-digit earnings growth for the rest of the year.
